Sharon Blackie: Once Upon a Time in the West

Our ancestors were wise women, alchemists, oracles and mages. Our stories tell of shapeshifting, of mysterious and life-changing initiations in dark woods, of intense participation in the web of life. Once upon a time, the Smith represented the deepest archetypal magic, and the Hero gained the greatest gifts by acts of compassion, not individualism. The West wasn’t always what it is today. Somewhere along the line, and really not very long ago, we lost our way. How do we pick up the dropped threads, and follow the trail of breadcrumbs home? How do we carry our ancient native traditions forward into a new and ever-more-challenging world?
